"I also have in mind that seemingly wealthy, but terribly impoverished class of all, who have accumulated dross, but know not how to use it, or get rid of it, and thus have forged their own golden or silver fetters.” —Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

Inside the In-Town House

Well, here's the interior of the in-town house. The water department turned on the water yesterday while we were there, and since there hasn't been water running there in ten years, we anticipated leaks. As expected, there were a few. David already fixed one in the future kitchen area.

There is one big room here with a half bath and storage room on one end. The end in this photo is the future bedroom and full bath (which is a half bath now). The next photo is the future closet, which is thru the door on the right. Those are Mexican brick pavers on the floor. The plan is to repair the water-damaged areas and all the old grout lines with polymeric sand. The ceiling shows where water poured in last year.

Future closet... it needs some work as it has complete separated from the main structure.

Half bath... which will be a full bath after knocking down a wall on the right side:

Other end of the big room... the future living room.

Painted rock walls in the future dining room... I hope to remove the paint, but it may be impossible.

The archway into the future dining room. That's a closeup of the tile floor. It's Mexican cement tile and we plan to salvage it. There are 31 more tiles on the floor in the future breakfast area and David has already removed some so we can use them to replace the broken ones in the future dining room.

A closeup of the tiles in the breakfast area that we'll move to the dining room.

Future breakfast room (this area is bigger than it looks - I took the photo from the middle of the room). The old drive-thru is the future laundry room.

The opposite side of the breakfast room... the future kitchen. That's an old display case and behind it, not visible in the photo, is the old long prep table from the restaurant.

Suspended ceiling in the future kitchen. It's coming down soon. Some of this area has water damage, too.

Check out this top-notch wiring:

Looks like a LOT of work, but I bet it will be worth it.

Yes, it DOES look like a lot of work ... but so exciting, and so worth it ... I can see soooo much potential, and it will be beautiful!

Ginger - what a lot of character is already peeping through and so much lovely work lies ahead :-)

Looks like a clear division of the load too - presume David will do the ceilings / electrics, and you'll do the walls / floors / doors :-) Those tiles are brilliant - are you going to pick up the green or brown for your colour scheme? (The brownie colour is exactly the colour I was suggesting for the outside walls :-) )

Lordie, I'd love to get my hands on helping you... wish you lived closer!

And the reward for the months of work which lie ahead? At the end you'll have a stunning home!!!!
