"I also have in mind that seemingly wealthy, but terribly impoverished class of all, who have accumulated dross, but know not how to use it, or get rid of it, and thus have forged their own golden or silver fetters.” —Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

Across the State and Back in Three Days

Okay, I'm gettin' too old for this. Tessa and I drove to The Woodlands to see Jamie and Mikael. I forgot how wide our beautiful state is. We made it back on Friday night after midnight. The road was littered with dead deer - one every few feet, seriously. But we had no close calls. Thanks, cardboard Jesus.

That's one long trip for sure. Most folks don't realize just how big the state of Texas is. It's really sinking in again for me these days. Living in Oklahoma now, I still get tickled at people who think driving 30-40 miles for a visit to see friends or family is a "long trip". LOL For us Texans we are prone to say "It's just down the road a ways"!
Glad you had a safe trip and you guys are back home safe and sound.

People used to think I was nuts when I told them it took me 12 to 14 hours to drive from Houston to Terlingua for the chili cook-off.

From the smile in your faces it was well worth the hours on the road. Besides your daughter is young and has good eyesight :D

South of Houston to Odessa is a killer and add another 200 miles to that would be even worse! I read some where that when people in El Paso are talking about going to the beach they are talking about going to a beach in CA because it is closer.

Bet you enjoyed it even with the distance though.

From the looks on your faces it was well worth the time and trouble.

So glad you had the time out to feed the inner part of you :-)

I would also like to pay my respect to cardboard Jesus. Not only do I know that he is positioned strategically on the driver side sun shade (or maybe he fell down on to the dash, covering some sort of gauge Tessa feels isn't pertinent--like the coolant gauge) but I also know that he is laminated and he means business!

Hi, Lovely to see you have used the natural houses show. Just wanted to tell you there's a new show about natural builders with links to their websites here: http://naturalhomes.org/show/people/getslide.htm
