Roxie & Darien

Roxie is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Pepper is a Lab/Blue Heeler mix. We switched them from commercial dog food to the carnivore-friendly Raw Meaty Bones diet a couple of years ago. Before you jump me about feeding my dogs raw meaty bones, RAW bones do not splinter. COOKED bones (chicken bones, especially) do.
Pepper
My dogs have done incredibly well on this diet and I am amazed at how young ten-year-old Pepper acts since we switched. And their teeth are clean and white. The reasons for switching were many.
Anyway, I've always used spot-on flea/tick treatments on them, like Advantage or Frontline and occasionally, the cheaper (non-waterproof) Biospot. My oldest daughter worked at a vet clinic and warned me a few years ago (she doesn't work there anymore) that they were seeing a few dogs come in with complications, including seizures, after an application of spot-on treatment. I've never had a problem with any of these treatments, but for some reason, I got worried and quit using spot-on treatments. I mean, they are pesticides that sit on the skin for 30 days at a time. It seems very harsh. I ordered some Flea Free and food-grade Diamatceous Earth from http://www.wolfcreekranch.net/ and I've just begun the Flea Free this morning on the dogs. Flea Free is a liquid that is added to dogs' drinking water. It contains vinegar and garlic and other seasonings. Although we haven't seen any fleas or ticks, the rainy season is upon us, and I want to get ahead of the problem. I'll post an update soon.

I've read quite a bit about raw food diets being GREAT for dogs!
I make up a huge batch of peanut butter, vinegar, and garlic sandwich crackers for my dogs ... they love them ... and that treat has kept fleas away.
Good to see you again ... hope all is well in your world :)
hmmmm, Ive never tried them sandwiches before..
by the way I aint got a dog
MC, I made dog treats until we moved into the motorhome. Thanks for reminding me that I could do this myself. Good to know.
I, We need to fix you up with a dog!
lol , been done before ....ill pass
oh , yer talking bout a real dog hmmmm I dont think I can while I travel the way I do. Thanks for the thought.
Good for you for feeding raw! I did a lot of my own research into what dogs should and should not eat, and fed raw for about a month. Then I found Innova EVO and have been feeding that ever since. It's a grain-free dog food, and I have 4 dogs that are very healthy on it. My 5 year old has never needed a teeth cleaning, and the 3 and 4 year olds also have gorgeous white teeth. Their blood work at the vet's is always great, too.
I've been feeding my Akitas a chicken thigh a day while decreasing their kibble for about a week now.
My male, who is six years old, is acting noticeably more sprightly and friendly. :)
