Starting a New Job Soon

I'm starting a new job the first week in February. I am excited about the new job and fretting a little over how I will handle the new schedule - very early mornings, commuting 30 miles one-way, working weekends. On the other hand, off at 2 pm most of the time, hiking some nearby trails after work, meeting people who are actually HAPPY to be where they are, just being in the beautiful surroundings. Wish for something long enough and it may actually come true. Of course, one must do the work, too, which includes agonizing over leaving the current job (the job which is fun when corporate technology is working properly but extremely stressful when it's not, and it's not most of the time), filling out the darn paperwork for each individual job, which takes about 2 hours, and then waiting... and waiting. And waiting. All things must pass, including the time it takes to go through the process.

I was hoping to work at a nearby university, but describing the time between completing the application process and actually getting a call about the job cannot be adequately conveyed by the word "waiting." It could be compared to watching the seasons pass, observing the growth on an old oak tree, counting the minutes until vacation starts. I think you get my point.

I got a happy birthday email from my old boss in Houston. I was pleasantly surprised to hear from him. He's a very thoughtful guy and remembers details that others soon forget. Thanks, Paul!

I'm so excited to hear about your new job! Will you be doing office work or working out 'in the field' or outdoors? Isn't this new life you have so very different from your life in the Houston area??
From your previous post...I want you to know you have beautiful children, and I'll bet you really enjoyed their visit and showing them the area around your new home.
Your land is awesome, and I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the work you've done around the trailer out there. I really like your little patio area you're working on.
It was so nice of you to offer me a visit to your new place if I ever get out your way, but for now I can only share it through your blog. I thank you so much anyway!
Take extra care when you stay out on your land as it does appear to be somewhat remote, but beautiful and perfect. I could easily live out there! What a view you have! Hopefully you guys have a watchdog! ha..
Take care and have lots of fun with your new job! P.M.
P.S. I showed my moma your blog (she has a Webtv) and she ablsolutely loved it. She said it was one of the most interesting ones she's ever read. She's also a faithful reader of Annas' blog "Living A Simple Life".

Thanks for the good wishes! I'll be working indoors at the front desk. I would love to work outdoors someday, but do admit that I'm going soft about working outdoors as I age.
I do love my children and grandson so much. Your comments are so kind.
I must admit that the prospect of meeting a cougar or a bear out on the place is not something I want to experience. It's never far from my mind when we are planning our visits, but something I rarely think about when we are actually out there. I promise to be careful.
Please send your Mom my best. It's nice to know she's out there and how cool that she had webtv!
